It's That Time of the Year

It's Autumn out there & it's not the unofficial end of Summer (Labor Day) that's evidence. It's October now...children, adolescents, & teens alike have gotten into their school-minded groove & may not even blink an eye at the possibility of a pop quiz. 😁

In just a few short weeks it'll be time to adjust our clocks to what we've been calling Standard Time (although the joke is that we spend more time on the calendar in Daylight Savings Time, which would mean that Daylight Savings Time is technically more standard of a time for us than Standard Time itself 😂).

That's right, we've been losing about two minutes of daylight in both the morning & the evening since that dreadful day in late June, & it's becoming more apparent each & every single day. In fact, this became strikingly apparent to me just this past week as I ultimately waited for the day's humidity to die out, then I proceeded to go running until dusk. I managed just three miles in that space of time. Then I found a few nagging mosquitoes tempting at my skin...& I turned in for a grand evening stretch...thrilled at least that I'd actually managed to pound out the miles that I did. I couldn't have managed (at least not in reasonable vision) that same run, at that same time, this week.

Yes, it's Autumn now. Or, as the others call it, "Fall" 😂. It's the time of the year when it might be best to wear a short-sleeve shirt, a long-sleeve shirt, or one of these shirts accompanied by a jacket; it's all in what Mother Nature throws our way. It's a time of year when it's important to check with the daily (maybe the weekly) weather in order to best be certain you've left the house for the day most adequately suited for whatever the weather may bring.

When stores have been displaying their candy for trick-or-treaters for a few weeks now, & many will have already begun tucking at least one Christmas Tree in a near-the-front-of-the-store display, this is that time of the year. 😊

It's the time of the year when neither the air-conditioner, nor the heater need to run indoors in order to keep us as cozy as we'd like to be (although many will succumb to turning their car dials toward "red"). 😎

It's that time of the year when the ground is a bit more moist & it's not the best idea to leave one's porous items (particularly fabric bags) atop that same ground, otherwise it's likely to need quite a cleaning up, & nobody's gonna wanna be a part of that. 😊 It's that time of the year when the leaves are changing their colors to the watercolor shades that gather adorers. It's also that time of the year when those same leaves fall from their branches, whether they're whisked away through the wind in a gentle breeze, or they simply, conductor-style, sing-song their way to the ground.

And it's that time of the year when these decorations full of deep hues come out of their stow-away containers tucked in the back of most every attic in town. When these become a main staple across many a front porch & many kitchens have that warm feeling created from an aroma lingering in the air whether it be from some of these, or from some of this or this. It's that time of the year when these begin to be lit.

Yes, it definitely is a new season outside our doors now. As for me, I'm eagerly awaiting that day, less than a week before Christmas Day, when, day by day, we will begin adding back on those minutes of daylight in both the morning & in the evening. Yes, I'm already eagerly awaiting the sweet return of my ever-precious daylight, &, soon to follow, my favorite season of the year: Spring. 😏😊😀
