Traveling Tunes

And then it became time to travel to the next state over, get to packet pick-up, & then figure out how to fall asleep even sooner than soon because the only shuttle bus to the start would be leaving at 4:30 a.m. (for the 5:30 a.m. start time).

So this is part of the reason why I pack CDs whenever I travel. Yep, even in that very tight packing job I did the night before the trip began, I managed to squeeze in a handful of CDs. On a road trip these are uber important, especially when traveling either across (or up/down) a state or more of a distance than that. -- Also because I'm not a member of the current aged generations who are familiar with MP3s & utilizing their smartphones to listen to music, I continue to turn to my CDs. And well, because I happen to own the CDs & am comfortable using them.

Through these more elongated distances, unless a passenger is aware of the available radio stations, music otherwise can be very important. And then there are the times when there's simply no radio station available at all, just static, or that sorta horrible timeframe whenever the airwaves are kind of playing something; it's actually a song, probably an enjoyable one, & then even though it's already well known & obvious that even by turning up the volume, the favored song's sound will not become more audible, it's still as tempting & automatic to turn that volume dial higher with hope, so much hope.

I'm also specifically writing here about being a solo commuter where having a conversation with the rest of the vehicle's passengers in order to pass the time on by simply isn't an option.

When one is driving in an unfamiliar area, potentially before the sun rises or after it has set, maybe through fog or a rainstorm too, managing a spare finger or two over the vehicle's tuning scanner & then sifting through the music genres versus commercials versus talk radio options. This is why bringing along my own tunes has served me so well.

Enjoy the scenery, you say? Yes, I did learn that I apparently missed some [important?] scenery on this exact drive. Some friends enlightened me to a few landmarks which escaped my visual path as I jammed out to both this & this. And boy, did I certainly jam! It was a pure sitting dance party in the driver seat of my rental vehicle! And I loved it!

I'd also brought along a few other CDs (this, this, this, & this) in case I would've decided to change up the mood. Since the two that I played were technically four, both being double CD sets, & because I was trying to be a safe driver on this brand-new-to-me road, I kept to my version of the basics.

Alas, I arrived in the next town, ready for when packet pick-up would open.
