The Camping Shower Caddy

Some would say that showering (or bathing of any sort) isn't a part of the true camping experience. I suppose it just depends. When our family would camp together we showered daily. Over the years our showering compartments & containers varied. They were always plastic & could both hang from a hook that might be provided by the campground, or sit on a bench (that, likewise, had been provided by the campground). Vitally important to every camp shower: these.

There was a bummer of a trip, one of our historical landmark vacations (this one was while visiting our nation's capital), where we spent a bunch of nights at a campsite that happened to be opposite the restrooms & showers with the sand based playground in between the two.

We were young enough that asking us, especially after a long day of trapesing through places like The Lincoln Memorial & The Smithsonian Institute, to walk around the playground (which was very wide), rather than through it, was impractical...And I think that our parents weren't so crazy about walking around it themselves.

No matter when we'd shower, morning or night, we'd still need to visit the restrooms, all of which were located in this impractical area, before we fell asleep, at least just to use the toilet & brush our teeth.

Dad did his best to "rebound" & a pan of water appeared next to our camper's step before the door. We were to strategize carrying our things, which would've included these end-of-day items, as well as a flashlight, & then also figure out how to open the camper's door while retaining as cleaned off as feet as possible from that pan of water, which we'd be sharing with the rest of the family, "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater" style. Good times, I say, good times 😏.

This appears to be a more modern & sophisticated version of the bigger baskets we had available; really, any of these are far superior to those we used. We had something similar to these where the color variations could easily tell us which we'd been using (& continue to use until they were washed & bleached), yet could also easily be stacked & not be taking up nearly so much space, after all we were all spending our time in this pop-up camper together.

Our parents did their best to reestablish as much of our typical at-home environment, although small scale, while we camped each time. Depending on where we'd be headed, or what we'd be seeing & doing, we'd prepare for each camping experience accordingly. The efficiency of the baskets we used worked well for our needs at the time. I remember fitting my day's outfit, as well as my fabric zipper pouch of at-the-sink items in addition to the special showering paraphernalia: shampoo, plastic holder of soap, etc. And I remember oftentimes using the open ring of one of the basket's handles as a spot for my washcloth since I didn't want the extreme dampness (even of the rung out washcloth) to inhibit the still-dryness of towel I'd brought along with specific intentions of drying all of me 😊.
