When Back-to-School Appears in the Stores

Many people comment about seeing back to school merchandise as early as the first week of July. I get it, I've worked in retail. It's a seasonal thing. And once the season of red, white, & blue passes on by, it's time to bring out all of the bargains in glue, paper, pens, pencils, & pencil sharpeners (&, yes, other things too! 😂😊😉)

People can complain or comment all that they want, it's gonna keep on happening every. single. year. That's just how corporate America & corporate franchise chains work.

Think about it. Consumers. (Are you paying attention? That's you. You're the consumer.) No one's buying certain merchandise anymore in that "end of season" time frame. There's space on the shelves. In fact, they appear to be a bit more barren than they ought to. Enter: Next season's merchandise.  So, yes, at a smaller retailer, on Christmas Eve, BAM! There's likely gonna be a Valentine heart or two set on display, & maybe some candied hearts as well. Instead of "mentioning" to the paid-by-the-hour minimum-wage-earning cashier that the scenario appears to be quite ridiculous to you, instead soak up the goodness & consider how it's actually additional Christmas gifting treasures for that little girl in your life who's actually a big fan of all things hearts & candy hearts! Wow! You've hit the bulls eye! Because the retail store needs to stock the next season's merchandise before the next season actually arrives.

So when would the merchandise really be a welcome sight in the stores? I see it as a correlation with wintertime weather. We typically look for wet, wintertime weather in December, especially right around December 25. "White Christmas" has definitely assisted in instigating this. However, in plenty of places there isn't  a "White Christmas", or even a "white" New Year's Day. Frequently many will say, once the snow does fall come February & March, "I can finally wish everyone a 'Happy New Year'!" It seems they've just skewed an unnecessary correlation between big, white snowflakes & New Year's Day.

We consumers have many existing correlations, & much to our dismay, we've actually begun correlating back-to-school bargains with these early & mid-July days, & we'd likely be let down if the sales weren't as they currently are - any longer.

It's time to enjoy discounts, & these days, these days of August - they are for back-to-school discounts! Yes, Halloween will follow suite shortly, & then Halloween will be appearing long before we'd like to see so much black & orange on display. 'Tis the way it's been, & 'tis the way it's due to be.

Go grab some of these, these, these, & these! You'll be glad you did! You'll be due to enjoy a much more successful start to the school year if you do.
