Then I ran the early May marathons for which I'd been training since the calendar year began. Was I "free"? Maybe so. (I also knew that the next two marathons for which I'd registered where ten weeks away. So...)
I went ahead & signed up to join in a many miles, many hours, long hike. It was great. The experience was great. The terrain was great. The environment was great. Yes, I really do ❤ love ❤ the outdoors!
The group with which I'd begun hiking, hiked to train for an upcoming event on the same trail. Hikers talked about the event as the weeks wore on & encouraged me to participate. With the hiking event's course length longer than a marathon (making it, by definition, an ultra), & calculating that the event would be less than a month before the July marathons, it didn't seem to be the most wise decision for me to make, so I didn't.
At the same time I learned of their great need for volunteers at the event, &, after having made several friends who'd be participating, volunteering at the finish line seemed only to be a really great idea. So I did. I signed up. They needed someone to monitor (make sure it happened) the recycling. As an avid recycler, I was just the right volunteer for the task!
Volunteering at the finish line had several perks, one of which was volunteering alongside various others who'd not be "stationed" anywhere else (they called them "checkpoints") along the course. One such volunteer was a nurse.
We chatted for several minutes during which I explained of my distress with properly applying this. It had worked so well, better than this for many weeks. I wasn't sure if it was the changing temperatures (& increased humidity) of our region, I simply wasn't sure what it was. I did know that I followed the guidelines & instructions on how to measure & make the appropriate cuts I needed as well as properly preparing the skin on & around each of my knees in so that it would remain affixed as it should throughout each of my runs. As a result I kept this nearby. Along with these, my skin took to this each time earlier in the year. I had all of the confidence I needed.
This kind nurse explained that this product worked well for her whenever she'd be preparing athletes. I quickly made a note in my phone so I'd be able to easily look it up later. One of the greater things about this product (other than that it does actually work!) is that, like these, they are in small, individually sealed packets, making them excellent for being "on the road". Essentially I came to learn as soon as I purchased them in early July, that traveling across the country with them in my checked luggage would be much more compact as well as generally safe since stowing away a small bottle of this, even if sealed inside a few resealable bags, just isn't nearly as reliable. And I'd only taken a small portion of them from their originating box. I couldn't have done that with any size bottle.
So, yes, I did come to test these for the first time when I arrived in the town where I'd be running the first of the two marathons in July. Also taking into account that I should be waiting a solid half an hour after applying this before moving my legs & knees much may've been of great benefit.
