Those Standard White Plastic Hangers

And then we "graduated" to the adult size version. Or, basically our clothes were too wide & too big to hang properly from our child-size hangers anymore. Though it was gradual. Turtleneck shirts still hung from the smaller hangers. Maybe this is why I remember the turtleneck shirts in general, they were around for so long in the same way.

We were learning that certain garments hung better [read: looked better] on us if they were hung from a hanger between the wash & our wearing them rather than being folded up in our dresser drawers. Our hangers typically also had little hooks underneath, or, like these (links are to Amazon as well as the image link in the top left), divots, or "notches", where an outfit, which might include more than one piece, could hang together more easily. Look out organization! Really though, this only worked when the additional pieces of the outfit came with straps or strings especially designed for these notches & this wasn't always the case.

Nevertheless, these were the hangers of the house for a few decades & the hangers that accompanied us to our college dorm room closets. We still used the smaller hangers whenever a pair of pants or skirt worked just as well, "upgrading" to the wider version when a garment didn't hang as wrinkle free as planned & we wanted to look nice. After all, we were in college & considering our appearances on a daily basis differently than we had back when our only hanger option had been these 😊.
