All Things Plaid

Recently I went somewhere that was having a "plaid day". A group simply opted to wear plaid, any plaid they might have, or chosen to purchase in order to participate. They wore plaid scarves, neckties, skirts, shirts, jackets, beltshair accessories, hats, cuffs on their boots. This has stuck with me & having me think of all things "plaid".

First off, Forever Plaid, a show which I've seen, yet not enough in my recent past to recall much of it. Back in college I became involved in the back stage parts of theatre, mainly musical theatre. I thoroughly enjoyed being wrapped up in the excitement & adventures of the actors before, during, & after each show. When the school's company performed Forever Plaid, as with most shows the company performed, I made sure to see it.

Next, Brawny, at least the Brawny man. The first thing I think of when I think of Brawny is the man on the packaging label. Next, I think of the fact that he wears a plaid shirt.

Another, Scottish kilts, are, as Wikipedia explains, "almost always" plaid. This link to Wikipedia also explains that it's only in America that it's referred to as "plaid" rather than Tartan.

Parochial school skirts. Not every parochial school girl is wearing a plaid skirt, though they generally have the same pleated style & are a solid neutral shade when not a plaid pattern.

Blankets & throws as well as pillows. These could easily complete a simple room's theme in one's home. If it's a guest room, & intended for, well, anyone, including a couple, plaid is dimensional & "gender-neutral", making all feel all the more cozy, comfortable, safe, relaxed, & "at home" possibly with a solid colored comforter & a few throw pillows along with a blanket edging the foot of the bed.

Dishes & dishcloths. Various kitchen items. Plaid could be a general decorating theme. It could also be seasonal. Many decorating items come in pastel plaids geared toward Springtime. There are holiday plaids for the Fall & Thanksgiving as well as the Christmas season too.

Dressing & decorating in plaid. I'm glad I happened to notice it that day. Thinking of plaid warms the mind & the fabrics keep us warm & cozy. It's a style & design that stays through the ages.
