Today, on a cold day, it is a great reminder of the brilliance of bed sheets & their ever-changing fabrics. As a young girl there was one fabric. Multiple blankets, topped by a bedspread would be added to ensure continued warmth & the most peaceful night's sleep possible.
Eventually flannel sheets became a part of the winter routine & there were two sets of flannel per bed in so that while one awaited the washing machine, the other was available to make the bed.
It wasn't until much later down the road far into adulthood, that I realized there's a wide variety of fabrics & I've found myself utilizing at least four of them to suit me best during most any season.
I've a set which reminds me of those beginner bed sheets. Linen: a rather thin fabric, quite ideal for the absolute hottest days when still having a thin layer atop you makes it a little easier to remain asleep.
Then there is a jersey fabric which has been most ideal for Springtime & Fall. It has some texture to it, yet is soft, comfortable, & cozy - like a jersey knit would be while you would wear it.
The flannel of childhood days would be next & would be the transition from the previously mentioned to fleece. Flannel seems to be the fabric that's anticipated as everyone's well aware that the end of the year is upon us.
Finally fleece, where once those most chilling days arrive, absolute warmth, even if it's completely in the mind, becomes essential to all as they consider the necessity of a solid night's rest, ready to prepare for a new morning possibility decorated with icicles.
These four varieties of bed sheets, along with a bunch of blankets (because I adore blankets even if my sheets are keeping me plenty cozy) have served me well...Check out this article for a bit of information on summer sheets & sleeping.
