Considering Coat Racks

On a day like today, where grabbing a light jacket, sweatshirt, or sweater seemed most fitting (another pun! 😕😌), I reconsider a purchase I'd like to have, which I know I'd use, yet it's not been a realistic thing for me to have - at least not right now.

A coat rack... There's a simple elegance to such a thing, & for just the right person, & just the right lifestyle, it can be just the most appropriate thing.

I've something where I've mounted/tossed my assortment of light sweaters (the kind that are three quarter length sleeves with no buttons), a bunch of sweatshirts (because when heading out for a brisk walk or run, one always comes in handy), & an "official" raincoat or two.

I'd be good at using a coat rack. I would still pile my loot, just less over more pegs, or hooks as I suppose that they'd be.

A simple coat rack seems complicated. I'd want something that doesn't take up much room; I don't want it to be too bulky. It would need to have plenty of hooks, yet be reasonably priced. Space for umbrellas & the like at its base would be convenient, yet considered just a plus. Likewise with a built-in shoe rack. ...And shoe racks can create bulk (read: width). I'd also definitely want a free-standing coat rack. As much as floor space is of the essence, so is the versatility of moving the rack with great ease, as well as not leaving any markings (read: nail marks/holes) on the wall.

I like this one for its nod to nature (I'm an outdoorsy gal who enjoys camping), yet I only see six pegs, & I'd like for there to be a few more for the effort of having a coat rack - both cost & space.

I like this one because there's plenty of hooks & places for shoes too, yet it's over 2' wide, & I'd like to keep the one I'd get to much less than that if possible.

I like this one because it has many hooks, as well as slots for umbrellas, yet it's floor width is more than a foot & a half. It's price is also a few dollars more than I need to spend - comparatively speaking.

So the ones I've sitting in my shopping cart to ponder & consider further are:

This one comes with a 14" base. That's a sweet, narrow, not-a-space-taker-upper-at-all width. It's a few more dollar than is pleasing, yet with its many hooks & a circular space for umbrellas to collect in the midway section, as well as that base size, the extra buck or two might just be a score. 15 hooks in total.

This one is, by far, the lowest costing of those which I've not only eyed-up, but also added to my cart. It's base width is just shy of 20", & it lacks an umbrella area. 11 hooks in total.

So, here we are on such a day when a light jacket could be a great accessory, & here we are with a couple of adequate coat racks to consider. Each has its own positive points, as well as concerns to make a buyer wrinkle their nose.

With each of the above, that is, with all five, I mentioned umbrella areas where they're included, yet I quite despise umbrellas. I've a few, of varying sizes & shapes, for absolutely necessary, or when someone's with me & expects that I might have one with which to "rescue" them...(I keep a small, modest sized one in my vehicle).

I'm that person that is using an umbrella, & as is often the case, there's wind (wind & rain like to hang out with one another), in so that, as I'm attempting to walk along with dignity (possibly with a brisk pace), I've finding great difficulty in keeping my umbrella at bay & tame. I'm putting a lot of effort into that umbrella; the holding, the carrying, the actually-keeping-my-things-dry part. It would be the umbrella I'm struggling with that would flip as they do for the unfortunate in the movies. I find it's simply not worth it & I keep light rain jackets around. These jackets with hoods, & oftentimes pockets. I meander around hands-free while keeping my person, including my head, dry. This pleases me. So would a coat rack. One might be in my future. Time will tell.
